Sipho used to orientate himself and tried to walk with a rough piece of wood which he had fashioned into a stick, but people would not believe him that he could not see. They mistook his wooden rod for a walking stick. The stick even gave him several callouses on his hand because it was so heavy.
Our practitioner Xoliswa Shozi recently trained Sipho in rural KZN province. She gave him both a folding and a rigid cane and she taught him all the cane skills and techniques he needs, to safely walk and get around his rural environment. He was so happy with his canes!
“People never used to believe me when I said I was blind. But with you, since you came and taught me with the cane, they really saw that I was blind. Even the cars, I can now hear them slow down, now that they can see my white cane.”
