Meggie Banda

Meggie’s journey into Orientation and Mobility began straight after high school, when she was introduced to the field by the Tomorrow Trust. She qualified as an O&M Practitioner from the College of O&M in 2016 and spent the next six years working with clients in Gauteng.

After a hiatus exploring the world of business and supply chain management, she returned to the blindness sector with a renewed passion. Her time away made her acutely aware of the public’s lack of insight into blindness and the life-changing impact of O&M training.

Meggie was drawn to SAMBT in 2025 by the opportunity to work with a diverse profile of clients in communities and schools across South Africa. A memory that continues to inspire her is of a blind father in Boksburg who was being cared for by his matric-aged son. By teaching the father the skills to shop and cook for them, she not only empowered the father but also eased the burden on his son during a critical school year.

An astounding multi-linguist, Meggie can communicate in all nine of South Africa’s official languages, making it possible for her to connect with and train the diverse range of clients who SAMBT reaches every year.
