Silindile was born and bread in Pietermaritzburg where she grew up with her granny. In her final year at university, she became blind due to a brain tumour. After learning to use JAWS software (Job Access With Speech), she went back to university and completed a degree in Psychology. She is currently enrolled for post-graduate studies focused on gender.
Silindile also serves on the board of the Gauteng branch of the South African Blind Youth Organisation (SABYO) KZN and on the board of the South African National Counsel for the Blind (SANCB).
