Silindile Makhaye

Silindile was born and bread in Pietwermaritzburg where she grew up with her granny. In her fnal year at university, she became blind due to a brain tumour. After learning to use JAWS software (Job Access With Speech), she went back to university and completed a degree in Psychology, an Honours degree in Gender studies and she is currently enrolled for her Masters in Gender studies.

Silindile is the chairperson of the South African Blind Youth Organisation (SABYO) KZN. SABYO is a wing of the South African National Counsel for the Blind (SANCB).

“Striving to excel and accepting the things that I cannot change in life is what motivates me and keeps me going. My passion is the liberation of persons with disabilities”.
